Course Purpose & Focus:
This course is developed to fill a need for training of those who wish to perform investigations in both the private or public sectors. Information gathering makes up about a third of the work of a private investigator. In many cases information gathering is the entire work task. In fact, information seeking is done by anyone who is conducting an investigation. Even public law enforcement in many cases need to investigate and search out facts to conduct their police business. This course is meant to be both an introduction to the topic of information gathering and an advanced course on sophisticated information gathering methodologies.
Course Description:
This course will introduce the mechanics of information gathering. It will discuss the legal liability factors related to information gathering and how to avoid unpleasant legal entanglements as the result of violating the rules of gathering information. It will closely examine information gathering practices and procedures which every investigator should know when called upon to perform effectively and efficiently in an investigation.
Prerequisites & Credits:
There are no prerequisites for attendance at this seminar. This is a six credit seminar for those requiring training credits for the Private Detective and Protective Agent Service Board. Licensed public law enforcement officers may also gain POST credits for this course. All public law enforcement officers must call the POST Board and process this material through their local POST Board for credits.
