COURSE RATIONALE
This seminar is intended to provide basic security information for loss prevention personnel, private detectives, and others who own, manage, or supervise retail operations. At the completion of this seminar the students will be able to recognize threats common to retail, commercial, wholesale, manufacturing and construction locations. Information will be presented that will provide many solutions for mitigation of these threats. In addition, information will be provided to direct the students toward resources that can provide equipment and designs that will reduce the probability and criticality of loss event occurrences in the above mentioned environments.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
These seminars are designed to:
1. Provide the basic information to assist the student in identifying risk factors inherent in a business that lacks security and safety programs.
2. Examine the concept that the employee is the first line of defense in loss prevention,
3. Identify resources commonly used to mitigate security breaches and safety hazards,
4. Examine specific programs designed for employees to reduce risk and deter loss event occurrences.
METHODOLOGIES
This course will be taught by an appropriate selection of the following tools, tailored to facilitate the delivery of the subject matter being taught:
Lectures, Demonstrations, Illustrations, Group Discussions, Readings, Tutorial Exams, Video Tape, Audio Tape, Computer Projection and Internet Resources.

COURSE SCHEDULE
This training outline is broken down into two 3-hour “continuing” training seminars taken in either the same day or over two days. In any event, no credit will be given for less than 3 hours of seminars in any single day. Each student must attend for a full three hours to receive credit for that segment.
HOW THE STUDENT WILL BE EVALUATED
Most seminars will use a tutorial exam during the seminar and there will be a review of the information at the end of the seminar. Each tutorial exam will consist of some combination of questions requiring narrative questions, multiple choice questions, true/false questions, matching questions and/or fill-in-the-blank questions.
